GN Saibaba: A role model in the struggle for a new society

We hereby publish an unofficial translation of a statement by the Committee for the Support of the People’s War in India, Austria:

GN Saibaba – A role model in the struggle for a new society

We were deeply saddened to hear of the death of Prof. GN Saibaba. We look back on his life and work for the people of India, the international proletariat and the oppressed and exploited peoples with great respect and revolutionary pride. His struggle for the New Democracy was a thorn in the side of imperialism from the very beginning. As General Secretary of the Revolutionary Democratic Front (RDF), he defended the democratic rights of the Indian people and, above all, the interests of the working class and masses in the struggle against imperialist oppression. In May 2014, he was abducted by state security forces of the Hindu fascist state of India and was one of the most well-known political prisoners in the world until March 2024. His crime was leading membership in a revolutionary organization, the RDF, and “supporting the Maoists”. The sentence: “life imprisonment”. Prof. GN Saibaba contracted polio in early childhood and since then has been dependent on a wheelchair and numerous medications due to the 90 percent paralysis the polio caused. During his imprisonment and solitary confinement, he was denied his essential medication for long periods of time. Even the imprisonment and the most brutal conditions did not diminish Prof. GN Saibaba’s combative spirit, and he continued his revolutionary and democratic struggle despite these difficult conditions, now especially for the political prisoners. Numerous solidarity campaigns were initiated and supported by communists, revolutionaries, anti-imperialists and democratic forces all over the world. Imperialism and its lackeys murdered Prof. GN Saibaba in installments! The loss for the communist, revolutionary and anti-imperialist movement is huge. But Prof. GN Saibaba lives on in the struggle against exploitation and oppression against the imperialist system!
