3rd Congress of the FSE: a turning point in the development of a student mass organization!

In the month of November, the Fédération Syndicale Étudiante (FSE) organized its 3rd Congress. Above 80 delegates participated, representing 13 different cities. This event is a great success and a turning point in the development of a students’ mass organization.

In addition to changes in the elected leadership the Congress unanimously adopted new points of unity and texts of revindication for a university and students in the service of the people, in order to tear down the walls of the university by fighting depoliticization and the isolation desired by the bourgeoisie. The FSE is therefore on the side of the masses in general and refuses to allow students to be isolated in the “temples of knowledge” to prepare for the job market. They owe to the contrary to all struggles practice in and out of college, but also ideological.

The congress took place in a context where the union has been greatly strengthened and where the number of sections on different campuses is increasing. With this new focus, the FSE thus wishes to be ready to give impetus and to direct offensive struggles at the universities and support the struggles of workers in general.

This last link was a major subject of the congress, in particular the link with the CGT. Jean-Paul De- Lescaut of the UD CGT du Nord, convicted for his support for Palestine, opened one of the Congress sessions by greeting the delegates and this has made it possible to develop discussions with the union members of Lille and the North in general. In addition to his presence, guests had come following the call of the FSE: the CGT FERC Sup, the FSU Lille, the friends of Martha Desrumeaux, the Committee Without Papers 59, the National Unitary Bureau of the JR/LJR and finally our newspaper.

Just a few weeks after the congress, its practical results can e seen: preparations for the opening of new sections, call for the blockade of universities for Georges Abdallah on 6th of December, preparation of actions against the lack of resources at the university … The FSE is an active and combative organization, as evidenced by the fact that during the convention, while 80 delegates came together, the activities did not stop: 2 blockades of universities in Paris (P4 and P8) and union work in the sections was led by activists who did not participate in the congress.

This congress and its developments, which include visible progress are therefore an excellent news for those who hope that the student movement reconnects with the combativeness and unites on a class line. It’s a real turning point towards this goal!
