CUPLGIA: Against Georges Abdallah, the relentless harassment by the State, again and always!
We hereby share an unofficial translation of a statement by the Unitary Campaign for the Liberation of Georges Ibrahim Abdallah (CUPLGIA).
The Unitary Campaign for the Liberation of Georges Ibrahim Abdallah has known that the public prosecutor has filed a cassation appeal against the ruling of the Paris Court of Appeal from February 20. This court, while not challenging the release of our comrade obtained in the first instance on November 15, 2024… had decided to postpone it to a new hearing set for June 19, in order for him to “justify a significant effort to compensate the civil parties,” a “petty legal maneuver” unprecedented according to Georges Abdallah’s lawyer.
By launching this new offensive against the release of our comrade, the public prosecutor—dependent on and at the service of the power—is fulfilling his role, which has always been to do everything possible to keep Georges Abdallah in prison. We will know in a few days the specific points of this attack. The Court of Cassation, if it does not reject this appeal, may decide whether or not to overturn the decision of the Court of Appeal, either in whole or in part. It could also decide to refer the case to another Court of Appeal for it to be retried.
The only thing that is certain for us is that this event requires all supporters of Georges Abdallah to continue mobilizing in order to counter this new attack by the power and its justice system. And not only to continue mobilizing, respecting the diversity of our opinions and always honoring his identity as a communist militant, but to further expand this mobilization and shift the balance of power with the State even more. This balance of power is what we have built over the past few years, and it has influenced the decision to release our comrade, as must have been acknowledged by the justice system, which now recognizes that Georges Ibrahim Abdallah has become a rather “burdensome” prisoner.
If the public prosecutor does what he has to do, we the long-time militants or those who have more recently joined the struggle, also know very well what we have to do, without ever moving towards pessimism in the face of the power’s offensives, and without ever fearing the increasing repression against anti-imperialist and anti-Zionist voices and actions. The power and their repressive apparatus are relentlessly targeting Georges Abdallah? It is up to us to demonstrate on all fronts and by all necessary means that, united for the just cause of our comrade, we will continue to struggle for his release, until victory!
New mobilization dates leading up to June 19 have been set by the Unitary Campaign and all supporters of Georges Abdallah: we will make them public very soon.
