A Nova Democracia (AND) has reported on a major police operation that took place on April 11 against organized peasants in Rondônia, resulting in the detention of 26 peasants. The operation was conducted against the São Francisco camp, located in the Nova Mutum region of Porto Velho.

The repressive operation began at noon, despite lacking any eviction order against the peasant occupation. Six vehicles, a helicopter, and more than 20 police officers participated in the operation. Big landlords accompanied the operation and even gave orders on who should be arrested. Despite the presence of many children and women in the area, there were no social workers, firefighters, or any professionals present, only repressive forces. The detainees were simple peasants and workers.

Peasants reported that the police entered the area pointing to the local inhabitants, shouting at the locals to put their faces to the ground. The prisoners are being assisted by a people’s lawyer from the Brazilian Association of People’s Lawyers – Gabriel Pimenta (Abrapo). The detention lasted for two days.

The police forces burned down the homes of peasant families and even forced women to cook for them.

The situation regarding struggle for land in Rondônia is intensifying, where big landlords have directed the paramilitary group “Invasão Zero,” and an extensive repressive operation has been carried out against the Revolutionary Area of Gedeo José Duque. The military police have been decisively collaborating in this entire terror operation . We recommend our readers to visit the articles and translations we have published on this matter:
