India: Crowds Honor Comrade Bhaskar
The Revolutionary Writers’ Association (Virasam) has reported that thousands of people gathered in Pochara, hometown of Mailarapu Adellu, whose nom de guerre was Comrade Bhaskar. Virasam reports that “During his lifetime, through his practice, he gained hundreds of villages and thousands of people in Telangana, Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra as relatives.” This was clearly shown when crowds carried out a march to accompany the body of the their martyred comrade.
This march took place on June 6, when the family members went to bring the body after learning that he was murdered. Then, dozens of Chhattisgarh tribals, knowing that their beloved leader was no more, walked fifty miles to Bijapur Hospital and begged the family members to organize the last rites for their leader in their area. Also attended dozens of members of civil right groups and mass organizations and were part of the funeral procession.
Virasam reports that two hundred police personnel were deployed to cross the Telangana border with the body of Comrade Baskar and his family members to prevent the funeral rites.
