28th of June, Israeli forces attempted yet another ground incursion into the village of Abidin in the western Daraa countryside in southern Syria.

Local residents responded by blocking the roads leading into the village with large stones to prevent Israeli military vehicles from entering. The confrontation followed an earlier violation in which Israeli troops reportedly opened fire to disperse children attempting to banish an Israeli patrol out of the village.

Following the clashes, Israeli military helicopters opened fire on Abidin using heavy machine guns while shelling the village with artillery fire. Earlier in the evening, Israeli forces had already bombarded the village and surrounding areas. The attacks forced a mass displacement of local peasants while Israeli forces established new military positions.

Meanwhile Israeli media reported that Israeli troops stationed in the southern occupied Golan Heights, inside Syrian territory, came under gunfire.

These attacks against the peasants in Abidin is part of an expansion of Israeli military activity throughout the area, coming amid continued ground and air operations in southern Syria.
