Turkey: Protest Initiated by Prisoners at Marmara Prison No. 6
We hereby share an unofficial translation of an article published by Yeni Demokrasi on the 6th of July.
Revolutionary prisoners in Marmara L-Type Prison No. 6 are staging a protest demanding a solution to an issue with the ventilation.
Revolutionary prisoners, including readers of Partizan, who were arrested as part of the May 1st operation, have begun a protest against the denial of their right to fresh air, following restrictions on visitations and phone calls.
In cells without individual ventilation, prisoners are arbitrarily denied access to fresh air by the press of a button. This button leaves the prisoners at the mercy of the guards, and they are forced to go out in groups, and cannot go out at will. Similarly, they cannot return to their cells whenever they wish.
Some of the prisoners, 11 of them sharing a small cell, are sleeping in the corridor.
The prisoners’ request to the prison administration to resolve the cell and ventilation issue is being ignored.
