Iraq’s Ministry of Finance has circulated an internal directive notifying banks and affiliated institutions of US sanctions targeting entities linked to Hezbollah. This decision was taken on the 7th of July. The directive has not been publicly announced neither by the Ministry of Finance nor the Iraqi government, but the document has been recently leaked to regional press.
The document was signed by the head of the Iraqi Foreign Development Fund and the director general of the Ministry of Finance’s Economic Department and banks, institutions and companies have been notified of its implementation. The decision coincides with the Iraqi Prime Minister’s official visit to Washington to meet Donald Trump. Additionally the Iraqi government has given an ultimatum of disarmament – until 30th of September – to the different resistance movements in the country which have supported the Iranian, Lebanese, Yemeni and the Palestinian resistances.
By doing that, the Iraqi government joins in on the recent attacks by lackey governments in the Middle East against the resistance movements, following recent similar attacks by the Lebanese State in its agreement with the State of Israel and threats against Hezbollah.
