AND Editorial – Communism Returns to the Center of Imperialism’s Public Concerns
We hereby share an unofficial translation of an editorial published by A Nova Democracia (AND) on 7th of August.
In 1982, the arch-reactionary Ronald Reagan, then head of Yankee imperialism, “prophesied” that the fate of Marxism would be the “ash heap of history.” Ten years later, after the bankruptcy of the social-imperialist and revisionist USSR, George H.W. Bush announced that “communism is dead” and that, “by the grace of God,” the United States (USA) had won the “Cold War.” But now, the Yankees themselves are forced to admit the mediocrity of their soothsayers: on July 16th, the criminal and fool Marco Rubio met in Washington with representatives of 66 governments, along with officials from the FBI, the Treasury Department, and the White House, to announce the new international preventive counter-revolutionary policy, under the command of Yankee imperialism, against the so-called “resurgence of far-left political terrorism“—which expressly targets all anti-imperialists and especially communists, presented as a “real and transnational threat.”
The truth is that the Yankees themselves never believed in their own false prophecies. After all, it was precisely during the Reagan and Bush Sr. administrations that the US, on its way to becoming the sole hegemonic superpower, was forced to hastily unleash its general counterrevolutionary offensive—also under its command—with the central and immediate objective of combating the revolutionary movement around the world, especially the International Communist Movement (ICM), treating the Communist Party of Peru (PCP) and its leader, Chairman Gonzalo, as a “powerful and formidable adversary” and the revolutionary war in Peru as “the phoenix of communism,” which would restore the proletarian cause to prominence after the capitalist restoration in China. And now, 40 years later, Yankee imperialism admits yet another of its failures.
On this point, Trump and Rubio are right: the revolutionary movement “is back” in the world and does indeed threaten the interests of imperialism. The general counterrevolutionary offensive, unleashed by imperialism in the late 1980s and reaching its peak in the early 1990s, dealt a severe blow to the international proletariat and the revolutions; it failed, however, to eradicate them, due to historical inevitability, for there is no definitive defeat for the proletariat, only a temporary one. The People’s Wars persisted; communist Parties and organizations assaulted by the modern revisionism of Khrushchev, Deng Xiaoping, and Enver Hoxha, waged tenacious struggles for their reconstitution, led by the respective red factions of the communist movement in their countries, a process that is still developing; the founding of the International Communist League (ICL) in 2022 marked a new step in the reunification of the international proletarian movement; The oppressed peoples and nations of the world have risen up in powerful anti-imperialist storms, such as wars of resistance and national liberation, especially in Palestine, as well as in Afghanistan, Iraq, Yemen, Iran, and many others; and the International Anti-Imperialist League (AIL) has fostered greater coordination among the nations, peoples, and organizations rising up against the common enemy, increasingly uniting the international proletarian movement with the national liberation movement. These events demonstrate herculean efforts for the former to increasingly assume its historical role of leading the latter, which is the basis of the world revolution. Thus, the so-called “strong transnational ties” and “new convergences” that so terrify Washington represent the closest rapprochement between these two currents of the World Proletarian Revolution.

The Yankees focus their concerns primarily on the so-called “Western Hemisphere,” the center of which is “their backyard,” as they call Latin America. This is not without reason: it is rapidly becoming the weakest link in the chain of imperialist domination. There are many reasons for this. Some of them are: first, the development of the “subjective factor,” as the great Lenin said, which is the growth of proletarian consciousness embodied in revolutionary organizations; second, the increasing episodes of popular uprisings, now commonplace in the subcontinent, expressing strong rebellion of the masses, especially the peasant masses, as witnessed by Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Paraguay, and Mexico, just to name a few; third, the danger of an armed peasant uprising growing uncontrollably in the Amazon, a region where the Yankees fear confronting a revolutionary struggle; fourth, the existence of regimes resistant to their complete domination in the region—such as Cuba, Nicaragua, and, until recently, Venezuela—which diminishes their authority; Fifth, the growing inter-imperialist struggle for the division of spheres of influence is manifested in the presence of Chinese and Russian interests— especially the former— in the subcontinent, challenging Yankee supremacy in the region.
This is why the Yankees have placed the most absolute control possible over the Americas at the center of their National Security Strategy; this is why they attacked the Venezuelan nation and reduced the current government to a quasi-colonial lackey; this is why they are besieging the Cuban nation to completely subvert it, likely resorting to military action on its territory to force the capitulation of that State’s leadership; this is why they are deploying troops to control the Panamanian government and force it to distance itself from China; this is why they are expanding the presence of their troops, bases, and interventionist operations in Latin America to levels not seen in the last 60 years, as we are witnessing in Ecuador, Paraguay, and Bolivia. The Yankees fear that the Democratic Revolution and the armed struggle for liberation will encompass the entire subcontinent.

In Brazil, which the Yankees have identified as a strategic target, this policy already has quite concrete targets and lackeys. More directly, it focuses on economic sanctions, in order to pressure the demagogic government of the false bourgeois left to limit its demagoguery to rhetoric, rather than backing it up with effective—albeit cosmetic—measures. Not that the opportunistic government actually acts against imperialist interests. But, in times of revolution, the oppressors do not allow the slightest hesitation on the part of the lackeys and demagogues of the moment to submit entirely—just like someone who does not tolerate joking about serious matters. And the serious matter is to remain aligned, that is, submissive to the US, to distance oneself from China, even if gradually, to further submit the economy to the Yankees; as well as, subjecting the State apparatus, the armed and auxiliary forces, the legal and intelligence framework to the increasingly direct control of US imperialist institutions, so that they may control their semi-colony with an iron fist in the face of imperialist competition and struggle, and in the face of the dangers of popular uprising.
Moreover, it is no coincidence that, in Rondônia and other parts of the country, the Military Police and other repressive forces of the old State—which act against our people in struggle— as well as the “social networks” of the far-right Bolsonaro supporters and other fascists, label the League of the Poor Peasants (LCP) as “guerrillas,” “criminal organization,” “terrorist,” accusing it to have ties to drug trafficking and “far left”—all while being joined by a chorus of elements from opportunist “leftist” Parties and groups, as well as social climbers of every kind; all using the same rhetoric that the US espouses to label, criminalize and repress the threats existing on the subcontinent. This is a strategic objective: to prevent the revolutionary struggle for land, the peasant war under proletarian leadership, from expanding in such a way that it becomes impossible to control, to deliver a decisive blow to its developments, since they have been unable to prevent its insurgency. The true history of the New Brazil, therefore, is already unfolding with its first lines being written, and in the coming years and decades, we will witness a historical struggle of transcendental global significance, one in which the fate of our homeland and most of the nations of the world will be decided, confronted with the grim destiny towards which Yankee imperialism marches—its dark and unfathomable grave.
