Brazil: Activities of the MEPR in Rio de Janeiro

The People’s Revolutionary Student Movement (MEPR) carried out and participated in activities in Rio de Janeiro in August.

They participated in a celebration marking the 60th anniversary of the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution, together with over 50 activists and militants from organizations such as the People’s Women’s Movement (MFP), Red Unity – League of the Revolutionary Youth (UV-LJR), the Brazilian Center for Solidarity with the Peoples (CEBRASPO), The Brazilian Association of People’s Lawyers (Abrapo), the Arapuka Collective, and the Walkíria Afonso Costa Student Front (FEWAC). The event was organized by the Revolutionary Front for the Defense of the Rights of the People (FRDDP).

MEPR reports that the event started with the Internationale and several slogans were chanted, including: “Long live Marxism-Leninism-Maoism, mainly Maoism, with the contributions of universal validity of Chairman Gonzalo!” ,Long live the New Great Wave of the World Proletarian Revolution!”andDown with imperialist war!,” after which presentations were made on the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution and different aspects of it, highlighting the struggle against opportunism and revisionism and drawing political lessons applicable today.

After the event, MEPR also carried out actions in support of the Agrarian Revolution in Rio de Janeiro. Several posters were put up in different departments of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, in an homage dedicated to the 31st anniversary of the Battle of Santa Elina.

Banners signed by the Arapuka Collective in defense of the Agrarian Revolution was hung in the University, and also displayed in several activities, such as a workshop, a film screening and discussion event on August 18.
