Germany: Red League Actions During Warning Strike by Port Workers

Dem Volke Dienen reports that port workers in Germany called for a warning strike, involving around 11,000 dockworkers who temporarily stopped work in Hamburg, Bremen, Bremerhaven, Wilhelmshaven, Emden, and Brake.

Dem Volke Dienen writes: “The backdrop to this is the wage dispute over a new collective bargaining agreement at German seaports. Most recently, the employers (the Central Association of German Seaports (ZDS)) had offered a wage increase of only 5.1 percent for an 18-month contract term. The dockworkers rejected this by a large majority. They maintained their demand for an 8.2 percent increase (with a minimum of 2.50 euros per hour) and a contract term of only twelve months.”

The strike lasted 48 hours, and several strike rallies were organized. Dem Volke Dienen published pictures that they received from the Red League during the strike.
