Italy: LET’S STAND AGAINST THE PD’S ATTEMPTS TO UNDERMINE THE MOBILITAZATION OF PALESTINE!

The Flotilla has assumed a symbolic significance on the international stage: that of a peaceful, consistent and determined opposition on the political and diplomatic level to the genocidal State of Israel. Its meaning and political implications have not gone unnoticed by Netanyahu’s Nazi-Zionist government, which, in an escalating series of threats, intimidations and sabotage attempts, has asserted that the Flotilla is acting in service of the Palestinian resistance and that, as such, the State of Israel will not hesitate, if necessary, to stop its navigation and, possibly, use force.
From the start this possibility was taken into account and many people, beginning with the USB dockworkers of Genoa, declared: “If Israel stops the Flotilla we will shut everything down!”. Then came September 22, which showed that this declaration is not the usual propaganda of non-existent general strikes from the grassroots unions, but an appeal that can actually materialize and, if it does, become devastating for the caste of rulers, the parties of power and the confederal unions, first and foremost the CGIL. Regarding the latter, it is indeed hard not to interpret the sham strike of September 19 as an operation intended to sabotage the general strike called for the 22nd.
September 22 marked a turning point in Italian politics: on the one hand, sectors of youth, workers and popular masses who had not until that day taken part in mobilizations in support of the Palestinian people came into action; on the other, there was a breath of fresh, clean air — like the wind blowing through Palestine this September with its indomitable resistance — a wind that is also sweeping an increasing number of countries worldwide, from Asia to Africa, from Latin America to Central America. A wind of rebellion and revolution of New Democracy (India, the Philippines, Peru, Turkey) against fascism (see Latin America beginning with the struggles against Noboa) and social-fascism and revisionism (see Nepal) and against US, Russian, Chinese, etc. imperialism, which feed bureaucratic capitalism in the majority of the world’s oppressed countries. For this reason September 22 created enormous concern in the fascist government, in the PD and in the confederal unions. The Flotilla is becoming for these actors a ticking time bomb to be defused as quickly as possible and at all costs. Thus the great maneuvers to sink the symbolic meaning assumed by this mission began, hinting as a quid pro quo at some possibility of delivering humanitarian aid — managed, moreover, by the same accomplices of the Israeli State. A military ship has departed from Italy heading for the Flotilla with the stated purpose of guaranteeing its safety. It is fairly clear that its real aim is, in cooperation with the State of Israel, to keep the Flotilla away from its intended destination, dangling the mediation of the “Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem” to carry the aid to its end. Now even the President of the Republic has moved to try to lend a minimum of moral authority to a proposal that certainly could not have been made by Giorgia Meloni without being immediately and broadly discarded.
The PD immediately lined up behind this proposal and in doing so revealed a side of the party that until now had remained hidden: its role, in the Flotilla, as a Trojan horse intended to pacify and neutralize the mission itself while waving the Palestinian flag. The opportunistic groups that had hailed the (sham) CGIL strikes of September 19, the presence of PD parliamentarians among the Flotilla’s participants and the “sensitivity” toward the Palestinian cause shown by at least part of this ignoble party now find themselves having to face up to a choice: follow the line of pacifying the mission in service of the imperialist states (primarily Italy) and of Israel, or choose the necessity of carrying it forward coherently until further exposing the genocidal State of Israel and thus contributing to a renewed general advance of the struggle in support of the Palestinian resistance.
