On 28th of March a very important event took place in Rio de Janeiro, namely the National Conference of the International Anti-imperialist League. More than 200 anti-imperialist activists from all the regions of the country gathered.
There were delegations and representatives of the League of the Poor Peasants (LCP) and the Union of Struggling Communities (UCL), the Revolutionary Front for the Defense of the Rights of the People (FRDDP), the People’s Women’s Movement (MFP), the Revolutionary People’s Students’ Movement (MEPR), the Workers’ League (LO), the Brazilian Association of People’s Lawyers (ABRAPO), among others. Representatives of the newspaper A Nova Democracia (AND) were also present.
A representative of the AIL in Brazil stated: “We cannot have illusions in this system. The imperialist system will be thrown into the dustbin of history, and will be swept away. However it will not happen by itself, this giant with feet of clay must be overthrown”. More speeches followed this intervention, given by representatives of the FRDDP, the LCP, the MFP and the MEPR.
Afterwards the program of the AIL was read and discussed, which was followed by interventions made by activists. When the program was discussed, the practical proposals made by the representative of the AIL Brazil were unanimously approved, therefore “proving the high level of unity among the anti-imperialist fighters of Brazil.”
