A paramilitary of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was critically injured on Monday 6th of April after he stepped on an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in the Saranda forest of Jharkhand’s West Singhbhum district, according to local reports.

The paramilitary sustained severe injuries and was immediately evacuated. Old State’s officials said that the operation in Saranda Forest is still going on, with some encounters. They acknowledge that “The use of IEDs has emerged as a major challenge, particularly in heavily forested zones where detection is difficult.”

Union Home Minister Amit Shah declared on 30 March that India was “Naxal-free”. Despite this claim, government officials are now stating that the “operations will continue with a focus on minimizing casualties while sustaining pressure on Maoist formations to dismantle their operational capabilities in the region.” Moreover, the Modi government is carrying out an encirclement operation in the Saranda Forest and has deployed thousands of troops in the area, as the Forum Against Corporatization and Militarization (FACAM) recently denounced:

Therefore, the triumphalist claim by the old Indian State was just a lie: Maoism is still present in India, People’s War still poses a threat for the ruling classes. The old State continues facing casualties.
