Portugal: Events Honor the Martyrs and Celebrate the Resistance on the Day of Heroism

We hereby share the announcement of an event published on the Instagram account of Nova Aurora on the 9th of June.

June 19, 2026, marks 40 years since the glorious and fierce resistance to the 1986 genocide in the prisons of El Frontón, Lurigancho, and Callao, the “Shining Trenches of Combat” where hundreds of combatants of the People’s War in Peru, including militants, guerrillas, and the masses, firmly subjected to the leadership of the Communist Party of Peru (PCP) and the great leadership of Chairman Gonzalo, fiercely and heroically resisted the sinister plans of the opportunist, APRA-affiliated, and fascist government of Alan García Pérez, in what would become known as the biggest extermination crime against political and war prisoners in recent human history.

In memory of all those martyrs who fell on the triumphant Day of Heroism, Nova Aurora will hold 2 events. The first, on the 19th at FCSH, will be about the history of resistance in Peru, while the second, on the 21st, will be a debate held at the Fábrica de Alternativas about the martyrs who fell in the anti-imperialist struggle worldwide.

Alongside Nova Aurora, groups such as the Anti-Imperialist Action of Portugal, the Revolutionary Committees, Guilhotinha, the Popular Union of Beira, and the PCTP/MRPP celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Day of Heroism.
