Brazil – Documentary On the 31st Anniversary of the Battle of Santa Elina

On the occasion of the 31st anniversary of the Battle of Santa Elina (August 9th, 1995), the research investigation of the group Radio, Education and Citizenship, linked to the Rondônia Federal University (REC UNIR), shared a documentary named “Corumbiara: the massacre of peasants”, made by Helena Angélica de Mesquita, A Nova Democracia (AND) reports in its latest New Brazil Bulletin.
Helena Angélica de Mesquita made 212 interviews for her investigation, more than 180 of them peasants in the Battle of Santa Elina and examined a judiciary process of more than 10 thousand pages. She stated: “The history of the workers, of the peasants, is different than what was registered in the process”.
A book, “The struggle for land in the country of latifundium: the massacre of Corumbiara/Rondônia” was published as a result of the investigation, which can be read for free.
