Turkey: YDG Calls for Organization at Istanbul University

Yeni Demokrasi reports that the New Democratic Youth (YDG) have distributed leaflets calling on students to organize at the University of Istanbul. Additionally, a banner reading “New Democratic Youth for Militant Revolutionary Youth” was hung on campus.

The leaflets denounced a recent circular from the Ministry of the Interior under the title “Security Measures in Universities,” which “make demonstrations, events, and press statements within the campus subject to rectorate permission; mandates the collection of information about students by the student security forces and its sharing with the police and gendarmerie; and foresees the use of closed-circuit cameras at events and the implementation of fingerprint systems at school entrances.” Yeni Demokrasi reports.

The leaflets further emphasized that the only way to overcome the repression mentioned in the circular was through organization, and called for the organization within the ranks of the YDG.
