Yeni Demokrasi: Decision to continue detention of Partizan readers

The second hearing of the case filed against Partizan readers arrested in May was held today at Çağlayan Courthouse. It was decided to continue the detention of 8 people detained in the case.
6 of the 13 people detained during home raids on May 6 were arrested after a 3-day detention period.
A lawsuit was filed against Partizan readers, who were arrested based on legal and democratic actions and abstract allegations based on a mere statement, for “membership in a terrorist organization” and “making propaganda for a terrorist organization”. Following the preparation of the indictment, the first hearing was held on October 18, and it was decided to continue the detention of 8 people, including 4 Partizan readers.
The captive Partizans in Silivri prison and the Partizan readers who were judged without arrest appeared again in front of the judge.
“THE SAME ATTITUDE SINCE DGM”
In his defense, imprisoned partisan Nihat Konak said, “There are decisions in the ECHR and the Constitutional Court regarding the statements made regarding tortures, stating that they are against human dignity. We see that these attacks, which were carried out through State Security Courts in the ’90s, continue in different forms.” He said and added: “A person gives an abstract and unfounded statement under police violence or on his own will, and so many people are arrested and continue to be tried in pre-trial detention.”
Other Partizan readers also said that the allegations were abstract and flimsy, and that his worldview could not be judged.
In their defense, the lawyers said that the statement in question contained statements that were contrary to the ordinary course of life.
The decision was made after the defense of Partizan readers and lawyers. Although no evidence was found to support the abstract allegations, it was decided to continue the detention of 4 Partizan readers and 4 other people detained in the same case.
The next hearing will be held on March 8 at Çağlayan Courthouse 30th High Criminal Court.
