We have previously reported on the ongoing struggle of the masses in Chile and the international solidarity expressed by many forces around the globe.

A protest day took place against evictions of ‘tomas’ and the housing crisis in Chile. This morning there were road blockades in San Antonio, Valparaíso, Arica and Santiago, expressing the just protest. They also denounce that several ‘tomas’ are under eviction warrant and there are no housing solutions even thought having meetings with the representatives of the institutions of the old State.

Even if the Toma 17 de Mayo is evicted, the housing struggle continues as we see with the encampment Nueva Corrillera de Puente Alto.

In Ecuador, the Front for the Defense of the People’s Struggles of Ecuador expressed their solidarity with the struggle for housing in Chile, stating:

“The Front for the Defense of the People’s Struggles of Ecuador, stands in solidarity with the residents violently evicted from the Toma 17 de Mayo, in Cerro Navia, Santiago de Chile.

Nothing justifies what was argued by the repressive apparatus of the old state spurred by the mayor of Cerro Navia, Mauro Tamayo, to have unleashed the violent eviction of poor residents settled in the commune in the northeastern sector of Santiago de Chile.

Mauro Tamayo, is a bastard of the revisionist Communist Party of Chile, who, after trafficking in the struggles of the Chilean youth and masses, used his political activity as a platform to entrench himself in the bureaucratic apparatus of the State and, from there, reproducing himself politically and economically.

We express our deep class hatred against this revisionist and, at the same time, we militantly show solidarity with the masses of occupiers torn from their land, legitimately conquered after five years of struggle against the corporativist policy of Boric’s reformism, whose objectives seek to apply gentrification in favor of industrialists; obviously, to the detriment of the interest of the poor masses.

NO TO THE EVICTION OF THE TOMA 17 DE MAYO!

NEITHER FORGIVE NOR FORGET THE PEOPLE’S EXECUTIONERS!

NEITHER FORGIVE NOR FORGET THE REVISIONIST MAURO TAMAYO!”

In several places in Austria actions took place. In the Austrian capital, Vienna, graffiti actions were done, leaflets spread and solidarity pictures were made. There were also actions done at the University of Vienna. In the city of Linz solidarity was expressed within a demonstration for Palestine.

In Finland, on Saturday, May 18, the Friends of New Brazil (UBY) participated as in the previous year in Tampere’s Opportunities Market, and for the first time in the Social Forum with its own event. Just a few days before Saturday, there was an urgent call for solidarity from Chile. Hence, leaflets were prepared to be distributed at the Market of Opportunities. There was a UBY public event in the adjacent Tyøväenmuseum Werstaa auditorium, where the Brazilian peasant movement and solidarity activities were told with pictures and video. After this, a call of solidarity was sent to Chile and the audience was invited to stay for a solidarity photo. The message “DEFEND TOMA 17 DE MAYO!” was projected onto the wall and most of those who were there came into the picture.
