AND: Editorial – The government is accomplice in the Bolsonaro war in the countryside

Hereby, we publish an unofficial translation of the last Editorial of A Nova Democracia.

“He who collaborates in, or participates with others in some fact; co-author”, this is how complicity is characterized in the Aurélio dictionary. If it is a fact that Bolsonarism is the great promoter of latifundium terrorism in the countryside, it is also true that the government has collaborated. After all, what qualifies the government’s conscious and deliberate inaction in front of Bolsonarist terror?

The last victim of the terror in the countryside was Fred Morilha, aged 16: from the Guarani-Kaiowá people, he was found dead on the MS-384 highway, near Aldeia Campestre, municipality of Antônio João, in Mato Grosso do Sul (MS), on the 23rd. Where bolsonarist “militias” (paramilitaries) operate openly. The police states that the death is “to be clarified”. Fred is the second young man in the last week to be executed in that same area: on the 18th, Neri Kaiowá was shot by the Military Police (MP), in a re-taken land area. It was the secretary of the State government, Luana Ruiz, from the Liberal Party, who called the military (she is a relative of the alleged owners of the area). In addition to the life of this young man, the police intervention also left a Guarani-Kaiowá woman shot in the leg.

In both cases, the “National Security Force” – sent by Luiz Inácio – miraculously disappeared from the area before the events occurred. It is not the only case: when landowner hordes advanced against a resumption in August, also in MS, beating and torturing the indigenous people, the National Force troops were not present either. It has been common for federal troops to leave moments before these events. Strange negligence: it smells like active collaboration!

In Maranhão, the Akroá-Gamella people, from the Taquaritiua territory, in the municipality of Viana, also face armed Bolsonarist gangs. On September 16 the indigenous people were the target of a shooting attack, in which at least 15 shots were fired.

At the beginning of September, when the Guarani-Kaiowá masses advanced in the self-demarcation, the minister of indigenous peoples, Sônia Guajajara, said that “the conflict is of no interest to anyone”: but the minister ignores that the genocidal people, promoters of the conflict, are the big landlords and not the rural poor. More recently, in front of these three brutal episodes, which occurred in the last ten days, neither Luiz Inácio nor the minister mentioned anything. Maybe the minister was very busy participating in the institutional event “Climate Week” to defend the reduction of global warming. About the genocide of indigenous peoples, nothing.

All the honest Brazilians must raise their voices to condemn what is happening against the poor in the countryside. The offensive of the Bolsonaro latifundium against the peasant, indigenous, riverside and Quilombola masses, while trying to take huge portions of returned or preserved land, is an armed struggle against the people, under the protection of the current government, which does nothing – even though he promised to put an end to exactly this state of the affairs. On the contrary, he has given the “agricultural bench” in Congress all political Power; the agricultural business has a central weight in the economy, raising the price of land and, therefore, fueling this perverse race to expel the poor from the countryside. Nothing has been offered to the peasant and indigenous masses, not even verbiage, since even the liar is ashamed of lying too much. Either the struggle of the poor in the countryside advances with new impulses with the Agrarian Revolution, or there will be nothing left. To the legitimate revolutionaries and democrats, it is urgent to cry out: Long live the Agrarian Revolution! Death to the latifundium!

At this point, a war between Lebanon – specifically, Hezbollah – and the Zionist beast is practically the tendency. Perhaps, war, and not a skirmish, is already be a reality. After almost a hundred bombings against Lebanon, the number of civilians killed by Zionism in that country exceeds 300, not to mention a thousand injured. On the 22nd, Hezbollah’s anti-imperialist forces launched attacks against Zionist military bases in the north of the territory occupied by Israel. From a military point of view, the attacks worry the Zionists: one of the missiles reached more than 50 kilometers of the occupied territory, the furthest distance since 2006, breaking the myth of Israel’s absolute superiority.

The truth is that, for the Zionist war machine the war against Hezbollah is a general necessity: it will always be too dangerous to have such a powerful adversary at the north of its borders, even more when contradictions with its rival in the region, Iran, which supports Hezbollah and, indirectly, benefits from it. Netanyahu, however, wants to rush it now, because, after the failure in Gaza and his stagnation in the objective of “destroying Hamas”, there is no other way to stay safe, and the extreme right with initiative at the domestic level, if not through unifying the “nation” against a powerful enemy and reheating the reasons for war. If this would not be possible, Netanyahu would soon end up in prison, both for internal reasons (corruption, crimes in public administration and isolation in public opinion in normal temperature and pressure situations) and external reasons (his war crimes, which the Zionist establishment will attribute to him to save Zionism from demoralization). Although the military consequences of Netanyahu’s plan are reckless (an objectively aligned anti-imperialist front would be very dangerous for the existence of Zionism in the medium term), he and his extreme right believe that such a situation would drag the Yankees back for the Greater Middle East, and believe that victory would be assured, both immediate military against the enemies of Zionism, and politically for the extreme right. But, it remains to be agreed with Biden and, later, with Kamala Harris, who will put pressure on him and whose isolation could lead to internal pressure against Netanyahu and wreck his entire plan. Their hopes are that Trump will win the elections at the end of the year, which, three months ago, was practically certain and, now, unknown. The conditions for the survival of Zionism, and the myth of a healthy imperialist system, as we can see, lays in external aspects, which are exhausted as the days go by, and require a prolonged struggle. The Proletarian World Revolution; the anti-imperialist struggle, including for the visible development of subjective conditions, and not just objective ones; This is the main trend, historically and politically.
