Turkey: Imprisonment requested for 17 Partizan readers detained on 1st of May

We hereby publish an unofficial translation of a report by Yeni Demokrasi.

The prosecutor’s opinion was announced in the case where 17 Partizan readers, detained on 1st of May, were tried.

The trial of 17 people who were detained by the police while trying to enter the area of Taksim Square, walking there from Saraçhane on 1st of May, continued at the Istanbul 24th High Criminal Court.

Judicial mechanisms seeking legal basis for deeming Partisan flags and aprons with the silhouette of İbrahim Kaypakkaya as “criminal elements” have again made a scandalous decision.

The prosecutor requested 17 people to be sentenced to prison for “making propaganda for a terrorist organization” and “opposing 2911”.

The court accepted the defense lawyers’ request for time to defend against the accusations. It decided that three of the police officers who signed the arrest report would be present to take their statements at the next hearing and postponed the hearing to 6 December 2024.
