APRIL 12-13, 2026: ON THE NEW REACTIONARY ELECTORAL FARCE IN PERU (SECOND PART)
We hereby share the second part of a note on the recent electoral farce in Peru published by Association of New Democracy – Germany (Nuevo Peru) on April 18th. We have made some grammatical corrections.
You can read the first part here:
Today we note that, with one week to go before the general elections (April 12 and 13) to replace the leaders of the Peruvian government, the final results regarding who will advance to the runoff to determine the president and vice president have not yet been announced, nor have the results of the elections for senators and deputies. The electoral authorities are releasing the results in dribs and drabs.
The electoral scandal has erupted, and Peru’s rulers—under the watchful eye of the puppet master, US imperialism—cannot agree on whether to declare the elections valid despite thembeing completely invalid, or to annul them only partially; as we know, the entire electoral farce is tainted from start to finish. In this regard, the reactionary newspaper Correo de Lima reported that:
“Burneo Does Not Rule Out Total or Partial Annulment of the Elections
The head of the National Elections Board (JNE) appeared before the Congressional Oversight Committee to explain serious flaws in the elections”

Updated on April 18, 2026, 6:54 a.m.
The president of the National Elections Board (JNE), Roberto Burneo Bermejo, reported yesterday to the Congressional Oversight and Comptroller’s Committee that his institution has 85 pending requests for annulment of various kinds (14 partial and 71 total).”
Some data from the last election:
“The current Congress represents the votes of only 25% of voters in 2021. No one else. The de facto alliance of Fuerza Popular, Renovación Popular, APP, Avanza País, Somos Perú, AP, and Podemos did not, collectively, receive even 15% of the votes cast. Allied with Perú Libre and JPP,”
That list above includes the reactionaries and their opportunistic servants who have governed Peru in the last term, despite changes in the presidency. Then comes the figure showing rejection of the system and its representatives; let’s read:
(…) What happened to the 75% of voters in 2021? Where did their representation go? 30% did not vote. 27.5% cast invalid or blank ballots. 17.5% voted for parties that failed to clear the threshold (and there were only 20 of them). That tremendous maneuver managed to pervert the simplest rule of democracy: today in Peru, democracy is the rule of the minority, with no respect for the rights of the majority. That is why 90% of the country detests this Congress, which, in a frivolous manner and without any empathy for its constituents, has become a hub of extravagance and exotic luxuries for its members.” (AMP, La República, opinion page, April 11)
Now there are three from the same reactionary pact who are the main contenders in the dispute over positions in the Executive and Parliament:
In this April farce, it is three from the same reactionary pact who are vying for the spoils, in redoubled collusion and strife, for positions in the Executive and Parliament, and they are:
“Fuerza Popular, Renovación, or Juntos por el Perú (the three parties in this disastrous Congress), (…) The pact has designed a Congress consisting of 4 to 6 parties. They are going to concentrate their power even further (…)” (AMP, as cited above)
Despite everything, the count is dragging on and progress is very slow, but there are three main contenders in the race, as I had already predicted:
“According to the latest results from the ONPE on the presidential ticket at 93.414%, Keiko Fujimori (Fuerza Popular) leads the vote count with 17.056% of valid votes; followed by Roberto Sánchez (Juntos por el Perú), with 12.006%; and, in third place, Rafael López Aliaga (Renovación Popular), with 11.921%.” (Diario Correo, April 18, 2026).
