Mexico: Weekly Newsletter
We hereby share an unofficial translation of the part on Mexico from the latest Weekly Newsletter published by Sol Rojo on the 29th of June.
June 28 marked the 31st anniversary of the Aguas Blancas massacre in the state of Guerrero. On that day, a checkpoint manned by the State judicial police blocked the path of comrades who were coming down from mountain communities to participate in a demonstration in Atoyac, demanding that Gilberto Romero Vázquez—who had gone missing days earlier—be found alive. A year later, at that same location, the Popular Revolutionary Army (EPR) would make a public appearance, delivering a statement before the communities and the families of the victims who were holding a political rally in memory of the martyrs.
This year, 2026, the commemorative event was attended by comrades from the Southern Sierra Peasants’ Organization (OCSS) and the Guerrero State Coordinating Committee of Education Workers
(CETEG), among other solidarity organizations, who honored the memory of the martyrs of the Aguas Blancas massacre, its survivors, and the comrades who, for more than three decades, have sustained the struggle with dignity, defending their memory and the fight for justice.
We at the Front of the People – Red Sun join in paying tribute to the comrades who were martyred by the State and in demanding justice for the victims of this massacre.
Don’t forgive nor forget—punish the murderers! Justice for Aguas Blancas!
