14 student organizations announced joint protests against the plan of the Nepali government of banning student organizations. At a press conference in Kathmandu on Friday, the Joint Students’ Organization announced the first phase of the protest against the preparations to dissolve student organizations.
The organizations denounced that the government intends to impose a policy of prohibition to silence the people’s voices, and warned of strong agitation and mobilization.
The government’s 100-point work plan was approved by the Cabinet on Friday March 27, shortly after Rastriya Swatantra Party senior leader Balendra Shah assumed office as prime minister, and announced on Saturday March 28. Under the plan, all structures of political student organizations in educational institutions are to be dismantled within 60 days.
