Today a general strike in Kenya takes place, protesting mainly against the increasing fuel prices which are affecting the Kenyan people. Kenya’s Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority last week raised retail fuel prices by as much as 23.5% – ‌after hiking them by 24.2% last month. Today morning, roads into the capital Nairobi were blocked by striking transport workers, and in Mombasa, Kenya’s main port city, the strike raised concerns about supply-chain delays.

The general strike is underway across the major cities of Kenya. The Kenyan masses have taken to the streets and they are confronting the State and showing that they won’t retreat.

The State has responded as it usually does: deploying police and military forces to the streets. Numerous denouncements have appeared in social media, as the police and military forces are unleashing their repression against the people. At least two protesters have been murdered.

Far from stopping the mobilizations, police brutality has sparked the Kenyan people’s outrage.

The repressive forces of the country are very well-known for their brutality and the multiple murders they have committed in previous protests in the country, as we reported.
