State repression against the protest camp Tierra y Libertad in Mexico

We share this urgent communique of the CNI, reproduced by the German website Deine Bahn, on the State repression faced by the activists of the protest camp Tierra y Libertad on the Isthmus of Tehuantepec.

”28th of April 2023. Today around 10:38 a large group of troops of the National Guard, the State police and Navy troops entered by force the camp Tierra y Libertad (Land and Freedom), where the Mixe peasants affected by the construction of the railway of Isthmus of Tehuantepec hold their blockade.

In the attack, which took place in two locations, six Mixe comrades were taken in custody: Maria Magdalena Martinez Isabel, Fernando Hernandez Gomez, Adela Severo Teodoro, Esperanza Martinez Isabel, Elizabeth Martinez Isabel and Eliodoro Martinez Isabel. Their location is unknown. The comrade Adela Severo was beaten up according to the reports.

The camp was destroyed and belongings were stolen. Currently a meeting is held to decide on the measures to be taken.

The members of the caravan El Sur Resiste block the highway Transistmica in Oteapan, Veracruz, to protest the aggression of the Federal troops and the state of Oaxaca.

The Ucizoni demands the immediate release of the detained indigenous Mixes, an end to the repression and respecting of the rights of the indigenous people of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec. We will also keep you updated.”

Solidarity actions have also taken place.

In Tampere, Finland, activists held a rally denouncing the mega-project Interoceanic Corridor of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, Yankee imperialism, the old Mexican State and the drug cartels.

In Malaga, Spain, activists have spread leaflets denouncing the State terror against the poor peasants and indigenous people on the Isthmus of Tehuantepec.
