Turkey: News from Yeni Demokrasi, Partizan, Munzur Environmental Association

After the immense repression measures the old Turkish state put into motion, on which we reported, reaction continues its black work against those six connected with Partizan, Munzur Environmental Association and Yeni Demokrasi, who were detained in Dersim and Istanbul on October 3. Four of them were released, but two face accusations of “membership in a terrorist organisation” and “providing finance to a terrorist organization”, Yeni Demokrasi reported.

Munzur Environmental Association Manager Özkan Arslan was referred to the court with a request for judicial control measures. Özkan, who was referred to the court, was released under judicial control.

Partizan reader Kazım Tosun was released after giving his statement to the prosecutor’s office.

On October 3, Ali Yıldız, a member of the Munzur Environmental Association, was arrested on the allegation of “membership in a terrorist organisation”.

Yeni Demokrasi reporter Ertan Çıta, who was taken to the prosecutor’s office on October 5, was also arrested on charges of “membership in a terrorist organization” and “providing finance to a terrorist organization”. Ever since Çıta started working as a reporter in Dersim, he had been exposed to all kinds of threats and physical surveillance by the police. Çıta, whose statement to the prosecutor’s office lasted 4 hours, was asked about his publishing house activities.

Our Editor-in-Chief Tuba Apaydın, after the prosecutor’s office interrogation, was referred to the court with a request for arrest, but was released under judicial control with a signature twice a week and a ban on going abroad.

Partizan readers Yaprak Kurban and Arzu Özdemir were released, Özdemir with a judicial control. Both were banned from traveling abroad.
