Brazil: Pernambuco – Recife’s Support Committee will hold an event to support the Barro Branco squatters

The AND Support Committee in Recife will hold a public event at the headquarters of the Trade Union of Pernambuco’s Federal Universities Workers – UFPE Section (SINTUFEPE-UFPE) on 18th of April at 14:00, supporting the struggle of the squatters from the Barro Branco community, in Jaqueira. The peasants from the region have achieved numerous victories against the latifundium of the region, such as when they prevented the poisoning of the water wells by the company Mata Sul S/A, and shortly after they seized the same wells.

Besides the AND Support Committee in Recife, Prof. Luiz Momesso, former activist of People’s Action (AP) and retired professor from the UFPE; the Poor Peasants League (LCP), Dr. María José do Amaral, people’s lawyer representing the Brazilian Association of People’s Lawyers (ABRAPO), the Collective Mangue Vermelho and the Movement Ventania.
