Mexico, Oaxaca: protests demand alive presentation
We publish an unofficial translation of an report by Solrojista:
Below we share some images of the actions carried out on August 30 in Oaxaca, within the framework of the International Day of the Detained-Disappeared.
As previously reported, four simultaneous mobilizations were held that day, coordinated by the Current of the People – Red Sun, the Zapatista Agrarian Indigenous Movement (MAIZ) and the collectives of families searching for missing persons. The actions included a blockade of the federal highway in Huajuapan de León, the seizure of the toll booth in Huitzo, and two marches in the city, one that started from the Monument to the Mother and another to the Fountain of the 8 Regions.
In general, the actions have been quite combative, and despite the surveillance of the State police and elements of the Mexican army [as well as the political police in civilian clothes] no major incidents were recorded.
As we know, there are more than 116,000 missing people in the country, and of these at least 4,000 disappearances have been reported in the state of Oaxaca. The coordinated actions of this August 30 reinforce the demand for the alive presentation of Dr. Ernesto Sernas García, Sergio Hernández Rivera and all the victims of disappearance in our state.
During the rally at the main square, an emotional moment was the speeches of the families of Dr. Ernesto Sernas García (disappeared) and of comrade Arnulfo García Santos (political prisoner), who sealed their words with a strong fraternal embrace in the midst of a sea of angry slogans clamoring for “alive presentation and punish those guilty!” and “freedom, freedom, for those imprisoned for struggling!”
The demonstrators, in solidarity with the families of our comrades and with deep class hatred, beat on the entrance doors of the palace of ignominy and the plywood fences that the opportunist government of Martínez Neri has placed around the main square in its “remodeling” (read: the robbery at the end of the three-year term). The main square of the city was covered with graffiti and dazibaos with the faces and names of our comrades, while the searching groups placed banners with the faces of dozens of missing people, including comrade Sernas García.
To the families of our comrades, to the mothers and families searching for them and to the victims of disappearances, we say: We will remain firm until we find them!
