Military Deployment in Bolivia’s Roads Anticipating New Blockades

The government of Rodrigo Paz has deployed Police and Military units after the announcement of road blockades in different areas of Bolivia. In June this year, the government issued a decree to deploy the repression forces of the State before popular protests, such as the road blockades. Therefore, the government imposed a state of exception, which is still ongoing and will last another 22 days.

This announcement has not prevented new road blockades against the decree which eliminates the aid on diesel. Blockades were announced in Oruro and Potosi, expecting more than 70,000 families, in addition to others announced in Yapacaní, San Andres or Santa Cruz. The Bolivian people protest against the Supreme Decree 5676 will increase the cost of basic necessities, and more strikes are expected against it.

Just few months after the massive blockades that paralyzed the two main cities of Bolivia, including its capital, peasants, workers, and other popular sectors take to the streets to protest against the increase of diesel.
