US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth announced potential joint military actions targeting guerrilla groups like the National Liberation Army (ELN), remnants of the FARC (Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia), “and an anti-imperialist armed movement that Yankee imperialism designates as a terrorist group,” as A Nova Democracia (AND) states, following Colombia’s entry to the “Shield of the Americas”.
To show its subordination, the Colombian government launched an operation against ELN on August 10 and 11, murdering two combatants in the province of Norte de Santander. In addition, August 12, positions of the ELN were bombed in Catatumbo, civilians were targeted, as we reported yesterday.
Trump administration has given $1 billion as a “security package to support President (Abelardo) de la Espriella’s administration in achieving our shared goals”. A source states that the amount of this new plan would surpass the Plan Colombia launched in the 2000s, which deepened the militarization and the war against the people.
By the implementation of the “Donroe Doctrine” and the militarization of Latin America under the false pretexts such as “war on narco-terrorism,” Yankee imperialism seeks to “subordinate semi-colonies, building a continental war apparatus directed by the Yankee government, which claims absolute power to dictate who can be eliminated, thus constructing a vast continental architecture of counterinsurgency warfare, with the subservient Colombian administration as the main spearhead for suppressing popular struggles.” states AND.
Moreover, during the Panama summit Hegseth demanded members of the “Shield of the Americas” to withdraw themselves from the International Criminal Court (ICC) because it “attempts to strip their governments and courts of their sovereignty” in its attempt to protect the Yankee lackey Israel and its Prime Minister Netanyahu. “The deceitful pretext of defending national autonomy rigorously conceals the most cruel and bloodthirsty interests of imperialism” states AND.
