India: Murali Kannampilly (allegedly Ajith) faced a raid and was taken into custody

Source: To a New Dawn

Today the Indian National Investigation Agency (NIA) raided the house of Murali Kannampilly, accused of being a Maoist leader, known as Ajith, in Kochi, Kerala state. The police broke the door, searched the house and detained Murali. After the search, he was taken into custody. He demanded the presence of his lawyer before allowing the searching by the Indian repressive forces. They refused his democratic rights and entered, carrying out a search until the afternoon. The NIA claimed to have recovered several documents. The procedures of the old Indian State in general, and of the NIA in particular are well-known, such as illegal detentions, denial of democratic rights, faking ‘proves’, etc.

Murali Kannampilly was already arrested in the past, in May 2015, when was imprisoned for 4 years at the Pune’s Yerwada jail, being released in 2019. Reportedly this search is linked to the arrest of Sanjoy Deepak Rao, on which we previously reported. After this arrest, many other alleged Maoists were charged, including some from Kerala, as Murali Kannampilly. First this case was lead by the Telangana police, but on January 2024 the NIA took over the investigation.

We will continue reporting on this issue as soon there is new information revealed.
