England: Domestic Violence support Workers begin indefinite strike against cuts

We hereby share a resume of an article published by Red Flag News.

Red Flag News reported that at the end of January, workers at Solace Women’s Aid made the decision to make an indefinite strike, returning a 100% strike vote with a 92% turnout of their members. The strike was decided as response to the decision by the company to fire one third of the workers, as a part of funding cuts by the Tower Hamlets, a borough in the eastern part of London.

The striking workers are not only taking action to prevent to be fired, but also to protect the services which many women and children need and will be damaged by these funding cuts.

The workers are organised by United Voices of the World (UVW), a grass-roots and independent union with a focus on direct action. This organization carried out a demonstration outside Tower Hamlets town hall.

Red Flag News report that the workers “have been heavily supported by anti-imperialist Feminist organisations, especially Sisters Uncut as well as Feminist Fightback. Many other anti-imperialist and anti-capitalist organizations turned up to support the workers, including ILPS (UK), the Anti-Imperialist Front (London), RS21, and the London Renters Union. Additionally, several trade union branches stood in solidarity with the workers, including Tower Hamlets Unison and the Industrial Workers of Great Britain.
