Mexico: The struggle against the CIIT continues

On March 24th, few days after the visit of John Kerry and the day of struggle against the imperialist mega-project CIIT, police and armed gangs attacked peasants, who had been participating in a blockade of the works of modernizing the railroad on the Isthmus of Tehuantepec for the CIIT. Two of the peasants were injured in the attack. Despite the harassment, the protest continues. This is another case of the Mexican state attacking poor peasants and indigenous people who are struggling for their right to land.

On the 21st of March, democratic revolutionary forces held protests also in the capital Mexico city in front of the embassy of United States. The activists denounced the visit of the representative of US imperialism on the Mexican soil, and reaffirmed that this visit has the objective of dislocation of indigenous communities and peoples, and that the CIIT will poison the natural resources of the 21 communities it will affect.

At the same time, activists show international solidarity with the struggle, following the call of Current of the People – Red Sun, which you can read here. You can read about the earlier actions here (23.03) (22.03.), (21.03), (20.03), (18.03).

In Austria, activists held rallies and made graffiti to show solidarity with the struggle of the Mexican people against imperialist mega-projects like the Interoceanic corridor. In the actions also the murdered activists Filogonio Martínez Merino and Jesús Manuel García Martínez ”Chu Pau”, who struggled against imperialist mega-projects, were remembered. The activists in Austria also brought up how the old Mexican state systematically makes people disappear, and demanded that Dr. Ernesto Sernas Garcia, who was made to disappear in 2018, is presented alive.

The slogan says: ”Against the imperialist mega-projects and state terror! Solidarity with the people’s movement in Mexico!”

In Bremen, Germany, dazibaos with the slogan “The Interoceanic Corridor plunders and kills poor peasants and indigenous people in Mexico!” were put up.
