We publish an unofficial translation of the article by A Nova Democracia.

In Fortaleza dos Valos, Norther Rio Grande do Sul, the PSB ex-councilman Evandro Hernique de Campos, “Vandoca”, murdered his ex-wife Jordana Prass Hagemann by shooting her after invading her house and he committed suicide after the crime.

Jordana was a women’s rights activist and vice-president of the Rural Worker’s Union of the city, she separated from Evandro and received protective measures since March, measures that were violated with a death threat through the cell-phone.

The relentless violence against women

According to the Brazilian Annual Statistics of Public Security 2024, the sexual abuse index between 2011 and 2023 increased by 91%, being 62% of the crimes committed at home; 62% of femicides take place at home, of which 63% committed by companions or former companions, in those cases 13% of the victims have protective measures applied. This data point out the absolute insecurity of the women of the Brazilian people, the researchers asset that the increase comes from the visibility of those violence based in the laws.

The murder of Jordana is the pure expression of this increase: the old Brazilian State under the management of opportunism, of civil right or far right, continues to be unable to protect and achieve justice for the Brazilian women despite laws and legal measures, violence continues to be cruel.
