Ecuador: The People’s Struggle, the Only Alternative Against the Crisis and Fascism
We publish an unofficial translation of an article by the FDLP-Ecuador:
On November 15 and 21, two important days of struggle took place in different cities of the country. The mobilizations had a great capacity to attract people and a high degree of combativeness.
The fascist regime has been forced to ignore the constitutional rights that protect protest and mobilization, militarizing the cities, especially in people’s gathering spots such as “El Arbolito” and the center of Quito. However, militarization achieved little or nothing to contain the combative force of the masses.
The government is constantly stumbling. The recent Ibero-American summit was a shameful failure. With only two presidents and the “King” of Spain in attendance, it was the summit with the lowest participation in history. They did not even have the capacity to approve an official declaration, which shows the government’s disrepute on international level.
The growing people’s unrest is a direct response to the severe crisis the country is facing under the fascist regime of Noboa. The economy has contracted noticeably, with a significant increase in unemployment and the closure of small and medium-sized businesses as a result of the energy crisis. Hundreds of patients requiring dialysis have been abandoned to inevitable death due to the lack of adequate medical care.
Prisons have once again become centres of crime and violence. A new massacre, which claimed the lives of approximately 20 prisoners and left many others injured, demonstrates the State’s inability to manage these so-called “rehabilitation centres”. Meanwhile, the streets are also the scene of constant violence. Despite official figures, massacres have become part of everyday life: contract killings, extortion and kidnappings relentlessly strike our people, who face aggression from both the government and the State as well as lumpen gangs.
It is essential to persist in organization, struggle, combat and resistance. These actions are fundamental not only to stop the fascist regime, but also to confront the imperialist voracity that is reflected in the government’s economic policy.
Let us continue to mobilize the masses in the streets, aware that this is a necessity in the face of the crisis, misgovernment and violence. Let us not do so for electoral purposes or as opportunistic plasters, but with the conviction that struggle is the only tool to stop the fascist offensive and imperialist penetration in our country.
ONLY THROUGH STRUGGLE RIGHTS AND FREEDOMS CAN BE CONQUERED!
ORGANIZE, COMBAT AND RESIST!
