Denmark – 1st of May Copenhagen: Forward in the construction of the Anti-Imperialist Front!
We hereby share a report published by Roede Fane.
Workers’ International Day of Action was marked in Copenhagen through several demonstrations, actions, agitation and a lot of other activities, not least in Fælledparken. We share some impressions of May Day and pictures we received.
Red flags decorated Fælledparken and Nørrebro
On the morning of May Day, red flags with the yellow hammer and sickle could be seen on streets and alleys, also in Fælledparken, where many organizations and people gathered to mark the Day of Struggle.

Antifascist demonstration
The demonstration, organized by Revolutionary Antifascists, went from the old Ungdomshus on Jagtvej 69 past Folkets Hus, Sankt Hans Torv and ended in Fælledparken. During the demonstration, several speeches were given highlighting the importance of anti-fascist and anti-imperialist international solidarity to defend the working class, all marginalized groups and oppressed peoples.

At the demonstration, Anti-Imperialist Action also carried a large banner depicting Palestinian freedom fighters and Inuit from Greenland with the slogan “Forward in the construction of the Anti-Imperialist Front!”.

Many powerful battle cries were shouted and songs were sung during the demonstration. Among the chants were “Social democracy, class treason!”, “Free free Palestine!”, “There is only one solution, Intifada! Revolution!“, ”Resistance against state and capital, the struggle for liberation is international!” and “Strengthen International Solidarity!”

Mouths were shut on the Social Democrats in Fælledparken
In Fælledparken, many left-wing organizations had set up tents where they had stalls. At one end, next to parliamentary cretinist parties such as SF and EL, as well as pampers, stood the Social Democrats. From the big stage, Minister of Justice Peter Hummelgaard would give a speech. Peter Hummelgaard wanted to give a speech about “justice”, but he himself is one of the architects of the SVM government’s attack on the working class and not least the Palestinian movement. It is his office that helps criminalize solidarity with Palestine, it is his laws that mean that people of Middle Eastern origin now risk having their citizenship revoked if they openly support the resistance.

As Hummelgaard began his speech, he and his DSU supporters were met with a surprise when crowds began to boo him and shout “Free free Palestine!” and “Social democracy, class treason!”. Many had brought whistles, foghorns and other things that made it impossible to hear a word of Peter Hummelgaard’s speech.

Banners with the slogans “Forward in the construction of the Anti-Imperialist Front!” and “Stop the Genocide! Long Live Palestine!” were also unfurled opposite the stage.

Although the action was legal, confrontations with the police began to occur. Peter Hummelgaard, condemned the action of the masses as an undemocratic act. An ironic statement when he is the one behind the attacks on the democratic rights of the working class. He also said that he had expected this to happen because the Social Democrats are always booed down at May Day in Fælledparken. This was also the reason why Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has never dared to show her face in Fælledparken on May Day.

In Fælledparken, the red flag with a hammer and sickle was also raised together with the Palestinian flag. Flyers were handed out for the Anti-Imperialist League, as well as handing out and selling material such as Arbejderposten and Røde Linje.
