Editorial AND: Yankee imperialism trembles before the proletariat!
We publish an unofficial translation of the latest editorial by A Nova Democracia.
The new and massive popular uprisings in the U.S. against Trump’s fascist policy of kidnapping immigrants and deporting them, using brutal conspiratorial and even illegal methods, are a striking expression of the degree of the political crisis that persists and deepens in the bowels of the sole hegemonic superpower, as part of and a leap in the decomposition of the imperialist system as a whole.
Trump sent nearly 5,000 National Guard and Marine troops to suppress the protests, relying on the “national insurrection act” of this country; this, in addition to the histrionic exhibitionism of the far-right extremist typical of the current occupant of the White House, occurred because, even spontaneously, the situation of massive and violent upheaval that has erupted repeatedly at least once every decade since World War II risks surpassing the limits of peaceful solutions and brings American society closer to a pre-civil war state. It is worth noting that the last time such mobilization of the National Guard occurred, in a similar contingent and unilaterally, was 60 years ago, when the massive demonstrations of the Black population for civil rights erupted in the 1960s.
This is the fate of a nation born of such imperial arrogance and equipped with a state policy based on the extreme cult of chauvinist doctrines that endures, regardless of the party affiliation of its ruling governments, like the doctrine of “Manifest Destiny,” which founded its army as marines or a force for permanent intervention and plunder abroad; a genocidal force that considers itself the owner and police of the world, the greatest machine of genocide in all of history, having exterminated populations of different nations, in addition to the indigenous peoples of the northern part of the continent, as it continues to exterminate in Gaza by proxy. However, this sole hegemonic superpower today suffers from incurable ailments rooted in its formation, which, like our country, was built on the perverse and insane slavery of the Black people, still treated in the “land of democracy” as a population of second-class citizens, and more recently, supported by the brutal exploitation of immigrants, treated as mere servants. This aligns with a growing crisis of decomposition of the domestic base of its anomalous economy for a long time, whose average GDP growth has only declined since 1950 (between 1950-1985, peaks that reached up to 13% fell to 6%; and from 1985-2019, only once did the peak exceed 5%). In fact, in the last 71 years, there has been a recession in the Yankee economy every 6.4 years on average, which reveals, despite all the “brainwashing,” the “American dream” is a veil to cover a machine that grinds the poor in order to achieve the most fabulous profits, aiming to escape this trend of stagnation, a brutal regime of exploitation sustained by the iron dictatorship of the imperialist bourgeoisie. American democracy is not denied by Donald Trump: this is bourgeois democracy in a senile stage, that is, a regime based on universal suffrage when convenient and on the mobilization of the war machine against the people when they rise up.
Not without reason, the thousands of troops sent to contain the protests were insufficient and even aggravated the violence and scope of the protests, spreading with astounding combativeness to 8 major cities; the working masses in the U.S. do not accept bowing their heads, and this is a formidable indication of how revolution is on the agenda, even though it requires, in the U.S., a proletarian revolutionary leadership capable of consciously developing such a situation towards revolutionary crisis, to conquer Power for the proletariat in the Socialist Revolution.

Jair Bolsonaro’s testimony before the 1st panel of the Supreme Federal Court (STF), presided over by Alexandre de Moraes, aptly represents his situation: weakened and on the defensive, like a cornered dog. The promise made the day before that the far-right leader’s testimony would be “forceful and sober” could not have been more betrayed to his audience.
Bolsonaro apologized in court to the person he accused of being his executioner for personal reasons; he was not the only one, as Paulo Sérgio Nogueira and Mr. Alexandre Torres also did so. However, the cherry on top was Bolsonaro, with a broad smile, inviting Moraes to be his vice president in 2026 in a joking manner. Thus, the leader of the Brazilian far-right appeared to the public, in his first court appearance, as what he is: a weakling and a coward, which is recognized by part of his base and undermines any position he intended to present himself in, as a “hero of the far-right,” martyr, or whatever else, to see what implications this will have on his mobilization capacity. As a historical figure, he lacks much to be something significant, even from a negative standpoint. Notably, the quest to protect himself at all costs – even calling the social base he himself mobilized to support a military coup a “bunch of crazies” – is the fate of cowards and weaklings, and quite characteristic of reactionaries. For it is not enough that he and his associates are despicable defenders of the greatest ignominies against the working masses: they are also cowards, which corresponds to the rot of their ideology. In fact, this is the moral strength of the far-right, and these gentlemen, who presented themselves as fearful dogs in court, do not differ much from others of their kind, such as Mr. Mauro Cid, the informant, who, as an official military member of the so-called Special Forces, mentally collapsed after being deprived of his freedom for just a few days, even under privileged conditions; or the valiant Daniel Silveira, once a pitbull-style deputy who cried day in and day out in the penitentiary complex where he was housed for several months.
From his testimony and the posture he assumed, it is evident that Bolsonaro recognizes he will be imprisoned, but he will not necessarily lose his electoral strength; at the current moment, he still retains it, and has the capacity to compete – according to suspicious opinion polls – against any of his allies. It even seems that this awkward way of positioning himself in front of those he accuses of being executioners is part of his tactic to try to regain his political and individual survival – because he feels threatened – positioning himself as a leader in the field of a right-wing opposition. The bourgeois democracy receives from Bolsonaro the proposal to reintegrate him into its ranks, this is the essence of the apologies. In any case, whether Bolsonaro is imprisoned or not, he will not diminish the anti-communist, anti-people, ultra-reactionary, and nostalgic culture of the military regime, whose most active and fascist social base may become more frustrated by his cowardice, calling for a more extremist leadership, and this is because the bases that brought him to prominence have not disappeared; rather, they continue to proliferate: they are the decomposition of the economy that engenders an objective situation of radicalization of the class struggle, and the deep political crisis that it projects and enhances as the demoralization of the old democracy in front of the people. Maintaining these bases, there is only one way to make the far-right retreat: by combating it without reservations or considerations!

The Freedom Flotilla, with Thiago on board, had its boat bound for the Gaza Strip hijacked and taken to the coast of the Zionist entity; Thiago was imprisoned, refusing to be deported and persisting in his goal of reaching Gaza to break the criminal blockade that prevents humanitarian aid from reaching the Palestinians. (Here, we see the moral difference between a fascist, as we discussed, and a fighter for the progressive cause). Regarding this serious situation involving a Brazilian activist kidnapped by war criminals, Luiz Inácio remained disturbingly silent – of course, because in this case, it would not help to say a few catchy phrases; action is required, and acting is something that the top union leader does not want to do, even if it means prolonging Thiago’s situation of deprivation.
During his trip to France, Luiz Inácio has preferred to attack the Palestinian National Resistance, stating that he does not agree with Hamas’s “terrorist attack” to soften his criticisms of the Zionist genocide; in fact, in this regard, Luiz Inácio differs very little from Joe Biden, who also criticized “Israel’s excesses” and condemned the Resistance as terrorists while actually financing the ethnic cleansing campaign; or from Mr. Xi Jinping, the president of social-imperialist China, who is indeed inert to the killing of Palestinians when he has the means to act to stop it, presenting himself as a progressive man while remaining passive in the face of the largest proportional extermination in human history.
It is insisted once again that it is urgent – and the only minimally dignified attitude – for Brazil, along with other countries governed by demagogues who claim to defend Palestine, to immediately sever diplomatic, commercial, military, and intelligence relations with the Zionist entity, and to impose serious restrictions on the Zionist agencies operating in the countries for the persecution and espionage of pro-Palestinian activists. This is the only dignified attitude, and any other, no matter how much it is painted as a defender of Palestine, is merely a subreptitious maneuver by hypocrites and demagogues to evade pressure, flatter imperialism, and maintain cowardly silence in the face of the massacre of women and children – demagogues and hypocrites, categories of men in which Mr. Luiz Inácio seems unashamed to accommodate himself.
