It has been just over 11 years since a crackdown launched by the State of Mexico led to the arrest of more than 100 activists from the popular movement in Oaxaca, including 23 comrades of Sol Rojo. According to the democratic organization, these comrades “were transferred to federal prisons on charges of crimes such as terrorism and possession of explosives reserved for use by the Mexican army.”
On June 23, the trials began against the comrades who suffered “arbitrary detention and torture.” Front of the People – Red Sun, together with the Oaxaca Consortium, has stepped forward to demand “that due process be upheld and that reparative justice be guaranteed for the victims, that the State acknowledge its responsibility, and that those responsible for the repression be punished.” Furthermore, they demand “Reparations for the harm caused and punishment for the guilty!”
