On the trials against the 1st of May in Turkey

The democratic newspaper Yeni Demokrasi reports that the first hearing of the case filed against 30 people, 25 of whom were imprisoned, who allegedly did not recognize the police barricades at the Bozdoğan Aqueduct while marching from Saraçhane to Taksim on 1st of May, was held on Wednesday.

The prisoners were brought from Marmara Prison to the first hearing held at the Istanbul 44th Criminal Court of First Instance. Those on trial without arrest and their lawyers were also present at the hearing.

Announcing its interim decision after the defence speaches were held, the court panel decided to release all prisoners on the condition of judicial control and postponed the hearing to December 25.

In another trial against the 1st of May celebrations 17 Partizan readers are accused among other accusations of “making propaganda for a terrorist organization” and “praising crime and criminals”.

Partizan readers and lawyers were present at the hearing held at the Istanbul 24th High Criminal Court. Many people attended to watch the court.

Trialed Partizan readers said: “İbrahim Kaypakkaya is our leader.” They explained that they did not see any harm in carrying the flag.

In the defense, the decisions of the Constitutional Court were mentioned that “Kaypakkaya is not guilty. It is not possible „to praise the crime and the criminal“ based on someone who is not guilty. Why are we guilty?” it was said.

In their defense, the lawyers stated that the special direction towards İbrahim Kaypakkaya and Partizan was unlawful. Lawyers submitted many precedent decisions to the file, reminding them of previous acquittal decisions.

All travel bans and signature judicial control measures imposed on 17 people were lifted. The next hearing at the court was postponed to October 18.
